I absolutely love the word BLOG – I mean doesn’t it have the best sounds – BLOG. I think in many aspects of me viewing blogs is how it sounds – not pretty.
For me and my what I have seen in respects to “blogging” is people creating an online journal to complain. I have seen creative writing, poems and people bash others. I have also seen columns where the author bashes something and gives no real evidence to prove their relevancy on their topic. So I bought two books to help me out with the blog phenomenom.
BLOGOSPHERE: BEST OF BLOGS – takes us everywhere from gardening tips, music, parenting and education. Another book was
THE ROUGH GUIDE TO THE INTERNET
all you need to know from broadband to blogs – I grew up with the internet yet I feel like an outsider so there you have it.
I feel blogs in school not great unless we are going to use it for research and writing on persuasive styles. I’m an elementary school teacher this is definetly in route for 3rd and up with a strong adult presence. Blogs are like commercials the right one can drag someone into their reality and who knows what might happen. Blogs can be used in learning about checking sources and viewing other opinions out there in the wide world. It can open the eyes to other cultures/belief systems/etc. and show comparison and contrast of other societies. Giving free range to my little ones is not a wise educational move. Teachers can use blogs to get ideas but having teachers create blogs? I’m a supporter for free speech and as long as teachers, who might I remind people are still people have the right to do what they want outside of the school as long as they don’t jeopardize their students and colleagues. I wish parents, administrators and stakeholders could understand the First Amendment with Freedom of Speech but until they do I say be cautious and don’t type about what happened at school.
